To wait on God, O wand’ring soul, who yearneth long
for promises which God has giv’n to us in love,
is nothing but a joy which bringeth forth songs
of wondrous praise, glorious praise, to Him above.
O wait on Him, O wait on Him,
and thou shalt know His promise true
for He is LORD, and He is King,
and over all He holds all rule!
O wait on Him, O faithful sheep,
and thou shalt know His goodness keen
for He the Shepherd helps His sheep,
who trust in Him, the reigning King!
To wait on God, O troubled soul, who crieth loud
in stormy seas which toss and try thy trembling soul,
is nothing but a calm, which chaseth gloomy clouds,
from Him, the Master of the seas, who guides us so!
O wait on Him, O wait on Him,
and thou shalt know His promise true
for He is LORD, and He is King,
and over all He holds all rule!
O wait on Him, O faithful sheep,
and thou shalt know His goodness keen
for He the Shepherd helps His sheep,
who trust in Him, the reigning King!
To wait on God, O restless soul, who wandereth
in search of peaceful pastures, green and pure and still,
is nothing but great peace and joy and pleasantness
when He doth lead us home according to His Will.
O wait on Him, O wait on Him,
and thou shalt know His promise true
for He is LORD, and He is King,
and over all He holds all rule!
O wait on Him, O faithful sheep,
and thou shalt know His goodness keen
for He the Shepherd helps His sheep,
who trust in Him, the reigning King!
